Bringing Up the ConversationAfter doing research, talking to the person you believe might have a mental illness is important but will take some time, so it is important to be patient. Many illnesses might cause the person who is affected by it to shut down, and it is important to reach out to them if they feel unable to ask for help. But there is a difference between reaching out and pushing too far, so make sure to be comforting not putting too much pressure. Avoiding pressure will decrease the chances of a bad reaction. Try and change the environment every once in a while to lessen the stress and prevent the fight or flight reaction. Which is a stress response to what is perceived as a harmful event, attack or threat. You do not want to scare or anger them, the goal is to try and help them at what ever speed they want to take it. Try to convince them to want to get better and take the steps towards treatment. The road is a long on and its important they don't do it on their own. Support it key.
